Top 10 Breakthroughs in Premier League 25/26

The season is over. Some won, others lost. Certain players left a mark, while others looked like a shadow of themselves. Everyone expected Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz to lead Liverpool’s title defense. That never happened. Instead, another young player from Merseyside stepped onto the big stage — and only time will tell how far he can go. Of course, we are talking about Rio Ngumoha. Meanwhile, in North London, a 16-year-old shattered every possible Premier League record.

10. Mateus Mane

The name Mateus Mane may come as a surprise to many. After one of the worst Premier League campaigns in recent history, Wolverhampton quickly said goodbye to their place among the elite. But there were still a few sparks of hope throughout the season — and Mane was one of them.

The midfielder managed to score 3 goals and provide 2 assists in 27 matches, attracting interest from several clubs, including champions Arsenal. Honestly, it would be a huge surprise if Mane remained at Wolves next season. A return to the Premier League with another club looks like the far more likely scenario.

9. Senne Lammens

Eight clean sheets and 39 goals conceded in 32 matches may not look like the most dominant numbers for a goalkeeper. However, the arrival of the tall Belgian in the summer undeniably improved Manchester United’s goalkeeping situation.

Despite a few shaky moments during the season, Lammens brought much-needed composure to the defense in front of him. His place between the posts at Old Trafford now looks secured for years to come.

8. Robin Roefs

Another goalkeeper makes our list.

Ten clean sheets and an outstanding campaign for the young Dutchman. Together with Sunderland, he helped deliver one of the club’s greatest modern-day seasons. Not only did the Black Cats successfully survive in the Premier League after an eight-year absence, but they also finished seventh and qualified for the Europa League.

An incredible achievement for Régis Le Bris and his squad.

7. Rio Ngumoha

One of the weakest title defenses in Premier League history. That is probably the best way to describe Liverpool’s season.

Whatever is said about it will not be enough. The Merseyside club endured one of their most disappointing campaigns in recent years. Yet there were still a few bright moments.

Rio Ngumoha scored the dramatic last-minute winner against Newcastle in the second round. At that moment, everything looked different. Everyone at the club hopes that Rio can carry his brilliance into next season, especially with Mohamed Salah no longer part of the team.

Liverpool will need the dribbling and pace of their new winger.

6. Rayan

Sixth place and Europa League qualification next season.

It would have sounded completely unrealistic if someone had predicted it at the beginning of the campaign. After selling almost their entire defense and losing Dango Ouattara, Bournemouth looked destined for relegation.

But Andoni Iraola had other ideas.

Even after losing their best player, Antoine Semenyo, during the winter transfer window, Bournemouth found the perfect replacement and continued dreaming big.

Rayan arrived for €28 million — a fee that now looks laughably low considering his performances. Five goals and two assists in just 15 matches earned him a call-up to Brazil’s national team for the upcoming World Cup.

Nothing seems capable of stopping the 19-year-old winger from continuing his rise next season.

5. Eli Junior Kroupi

Another Bournemouth player shines in our rankings.

His 13 goals played a crucial role in Bournemouth’s qualification for the Europa League. Still only a teenager, the young Frenchman already looks destined for greatness in world football.

The striker also scored the goal that secured Arsenal’s title against Manchester City. Unsurprisingly, the Premier League champions are among the clubs monitoring Kroupi ahead of the summer transfer window.

4. Igor Thiago

The new attacking gem of Brentford.

The Bees somehow always manage to produce another star striker despite constantly losing their biggest talents over the years. Igor Thiago is simply the latest example.

After suffering a devastating injury and missing an entire season, the Brazilian returned to push Erling Haaland in the Golden Boot race, scoring an incredible 22 goals and finishing second among the league’s top scorers.

His performances also earned him a call-up to Brazil’s national team for the upcoming World Cup. It feels only a matter of time before Europe’s biggest clubs come knocking on Brentford’s door once again.

3. Alex Scott

Yet another Bournemouth player features in our list — and perhaps the most important one of all.

Alex Scott currently looks like the perfect box-to-box midfielder in the Premier League. The young Englishman was central to Bournemouth’s incredible 18-match unbeaten run and their qualification for the Europa League.

It is genuinely surprising that Thomas Tuchel did not include Scott in England’s World Cup squad.

Top clubs across England are already watching the midfielder closely, although Bournemouth currently have no intention of selling him. At least for now.

The summer transfer window could change everything.

2. Nico O’Reilly

Despite losing the league title this season, Manchester City still managed to complete a domestic double — and Nico O’Reilly played a massive role in that success.

Especially in the League Cup final against Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola delivered a tactical masterclass in that match, while two goals from the converted left-back secured victory for City.

Originally a midfielder, O’Reilly appears to have found his perfect role on the left side of defense, both for club and country.

Now, the big question is how he will perform next season under a new manager and without the legendary Pep Guardiola.

1. Max Dowman

Record after record. Premier League champion at just 16 years old.

That was Max Dowman’s season.

The youngest starter, youngest goalscorer and youngest champion in Premier League history. There are hardly enough words to describe the rise of this incredible talent.

Dowman made his Arsenal debut at only 15 years old. He played a decisive role in the 2–0 victory over Everton, immediately influencing the first goal after coming on before scoring a sensational solo effort in the final minutes of the match.

The young Englishman already looks destined to stand among the greatest names in football history.

Only time will tell how far he can go.
