A Cameroonian striker has been shining since the start of the La Liga season. Karl Etta Eyong, the jewel of Levante’s attack, currently sits just behind Madrid’s superstars Kylian Mbappé and Julián Álvarez in the scoring charts — with 5 goals in 9 matches.
The Summer Transfer
Eyong is one of Levante’s newest additions. He actually started the season with Villarreal, where he made an instant impact by scoring in the opening round — a 2–0 home win against newly promoted Real Oviedo. In the second matchday, the Yellow Submarine crushed Girona 5–0, and Eyong provided an assist. In what turned out to be his final appearance for Villarreal, he registered another assist in a 1–1 draw with Celta Vigo.
Shortly after, his transfer to Levante was confirmed. He joined Estadio Ciudad de Valencia for a modest €3 million — a figure that now looks like a complete bargain. In just nine matches for his new club, Eyong has already scored five goals and delivered three assists — eight goal contributions in nine appearances. That puts him third in La Liga, behind Mbappé (12) and Vinícius Júnior (9).
A Flying Start at Levante
Eyong picked up right where he left off at Villarreal. He scored on his Levante debut, a 2–2 draw against Real Betis. In the following round, Levante demolished Girona 4–0, with Eyong once again shining — one goal and one assist.
Next came a huge challenge — Real Madrid. Despite a heavy 1–4 defeat, Eyong still managed to get on the scoresheet, finding the net past Thibaut Courtois. His first goalless match came against Getafe in a 1–1 draw, but he didn’t stay quiet for long. In the next round, he scored again — this time against Real Oviedo, sealing a 2–0 victory at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere. The run eventually ended with a tough 0–3 loss to Rayo Vallecano in round nine.
What Lies Ahead
Few could have predicted that the young Cameroonian would be rubbing shoulders with La Liga’s elite after just nine games. Yet Eyong has surprised everyone — and rumors have already begun circulating about potential interest from several Premier League giants.
The season is still long, and the real question now is whether Karl Eta Eyong can continue his rise and perhaps even follow in the footsteps of another legendary Cameroonian striker who once lit up the Spanish pitches.
